Specialist Pediatric Dentistry
Children are not “small adults” – they have their own pace, their own fears and a different way of cooperating. Specialist pediatric dentistry is designed so treatment proceeds safely, professionally and above all calmly. At Dentique we build trust step by step: we explain to the child what is happening, and clearly present the condition and plan to parents.
We emphasize prevention, minimally invasive procedures and good experience. When treatment is necessary, we perform it in a planned manner so the child can confidently return next time.
Our approach
- Calm communication and “tell-show-do” approach, adapted to age.
- Gradual habituation to environment and instruments, without rushing.
- Gentle, precise anesthesia if needed and ongoing comfort monitoring.
- Clear instructions for parents: what is urgent, what makes sense and what can wait.
- Special emphasis on prevention, hygiene and dietary habits.
What we treat
- Preventive examinations and monitoring of tooth and bite growth.
- Fluoridation and preventive programs to reduce caries risk.
- Fissure sealing (protection of chewing surfaces of permanent molars).
- Fillings on baby and permanent teeth and caries treatment.
- Treatment of caries complications in baby teeth when indicated.
- Tooth extractions when tooth is no longer salvageable or hinders permanent tooth growth.
- Treatment of tooth injuries: examination, plan and follow-ups.
- Counseling on sucking habits, grinding, mouth breathing and impact on bite (referral if needed).
First visit – how it proceeds
- We meet the child and environment: brief, friendly and without pressure.
- Examination of teeth and gums; if needed we agree on additional diagnostics (e.g., X-ray) – always justified.
- We explain the condition and propose a plan (prevention or treatment) and visit framework.
- If possible, we make one small “success” already at first visit (e.g., cleaning, coating, advice), so the child leaves with good experience.
Advice for parents before visit
- Tell the child in advance that this is a tooth examination – without threatening descriptions and without promises like “it won’t hurt”.
- Avoid words that evoke fear (e.g., “injection”, “drilling”); leave explanation to the team.
- On the day of visit, the child should be rested and preferably after a light meal.
- It helps most if parent is also calm – children read mood very well.
Note: each plan is individual and based on examination. For children, priority is health, function and safe growth.
Let's start with a calm first visit
Our visit and preventive examination is adapted to each child individually.
Book a ConsultationFrequently Asked Questions
When should a child first visit the dentist?
We recommend early, no later than the eruption of first teeth or around the first year. The purpose is prevention and habituation.
How often are check-ups needed?
Most commonly every 6 months; with higher caries risk, more frequently by agreement.
Are baby teeth really important if they will fall out?
Yes. Baby teeth guide growth, maintain space for permanent teeth and enable proper biting and speech.
What if the child is afraid or does not cooperate?
First we build trust with small steps, explanation and gradual habituation. If needed, we divide treatment into multiple visits.
Is X-ray safe for children?
We use X-ray only when justified and benefit exceeds risk. We use modern procedures and protection for low dose.
Are procedures painful?
The goal is maximum comfort. If needed we use local anesthesia and monitor the child feeling throughout.
Can a parent be present during the visit?
Most often yes. Sometimes for better cooperation it is better if part of the visit is just with the team – we agree on this along the way.
What can we do at home for less cavities?
Regular brushing 2x daily with fluoride paste, limiting sweet snacks and drinks, and regular check-ups.
What to do with a tooth injury?
With an impact or fracture, quick examination is important. We assess the condition and plan care as soon as possible.
How long does a visit last?
Preventive examination is usually short. Treatment depends on procedure and cooperation – but we always aim for a calm pace.
